GETTING to a distant funeral can sometimes be difficult. But help is now just a mouse click away.
For Worcester City Council yesterday announced plans to offer live streaming of services for £30.
Other options include a DVD for £50 and a package with a set number of still images from services at Worcester Crematorium for about £60.
A camera will be placed in the crematorium and footage watched by an employee of bereavement technology company Obitus at its head office.
Deborah Smith, spokesman for the National Association of Funeral Directors, said: ‘Our members know that families want to get everyone involved in a funeral who wants to be. With families much more dispersed these days and often living abroad, it can be a big help.’
Mourners who are too ill or infirm to travel to the crematorium, soldiers posted abroad or ex pats are all likely to take advantage of the service.
The arrangement could make Worcester City Council up to £120,000 annually, but after costs are deducted income is likely to be less than £5,000. The council is due to vote on the plans later this year.
