Police talk to victim of Novichok attack

- By Emine Sinmaz

POLICE have spoken to Novichok victim Charlie Rowley for the first time after his condition improved.

Detectives hope he can reveal how he come into contact with the deadly nerve agent which left him critically ill and killed his partner Dawn Sturgess, 44.

Mr Rowley, 45, regained consciousness on Tuesday and is now in a serious but stable condition. Salisbury District Hospital said yesterday that his progress gave ‘cause for optimism’.

Police have been scouring Amesbury, Wiltshire, for the source of the agent since the couple were taken ill there on June 30.

Neil Basu, Britain’s head of counter-terrorism, has told a public meeting in the town it was ‘implausible’ the poisoning was not linked to the Novichok attack on ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

They survived after being targeted in March in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Mr Basu also admitted he could not be certain there was not more nerve agent in the area.

Last night Theresa May urged Donald Trump to raise the Skripal attack and other Russian aggression with Vladimir Putin.

The US President is holding a summit with his Russian counterpart next week. Mrs May was seen chatting animatedly with Mr Trump at this week’s Nato gathering.
