Police took illegal driver’s car... but only after taking this engagement photo!

- By Tom Payne

IT WAS a rather indecent proposal. When PC Nuttall pulled over a motorist with no insurance, the man asked the officer to film him and his girlfriend – explaining that he was taking her out to ask her to marry him.

Incredibly, the traffic officer for Avon and Somerset Police said... well, yes.

A tweet by the Tri-Force Police shared a photo of the couple, saying: ‘They were stopped by PC Nuttall in Shirehampton near Bristol and after having the vehicle seized for no insurance the man said he was taking his girlfriend out to propose, so asked PC Nuttall to film as he asked her! She said yes!’ But the post was slammed on social media.

Vince Danley tweeted: ‘If the police are accepting sob stories and excuses in lieu of insurance, then I could save myself a few quid.’ Another said: ‘You’re celebrating a criminal.’

The force is known for social media gimmicks. Last year officers painted their nails to highlight modern-day slavery. It later said the VW driver would be prosecuted.
