Who buys high (price) fashion?

DURING her royal duties this week, the Duchess of Sussex wore four different outfits in 24 hours. Cost? £28,000.

Actually, I think Meghan looked lovely in all of them. I like her pared-down, modern, classy, elegant style.

Yet the economics of fashion don’t make any sense to me — especially as she was wearing off-the-peg dresses. Not even couture, my dear!

When did it all get so expensive? Shoes can cost more than a car these days, while handbags are a crippling price. And how many young women can possibly afford all this stuff?

It’s also a mystery how the likes of Chanel, Marni, Tod’s, Victoria Beckham and the rest can keep paying excessive High Street rents and business rates when even supermarket giants are suffering. In addition, there never seem to be any customers in their shops.
