Vanishing red lines

-

REMAiNERs have a lot to answer for — they brought about the chaos at the heart of the Government.

it is time for Cabinet members to honour the wishes of the electorate, as expressed in the referendum result. if they had got behind the Prime Minister from the start, the EU would have faced a united front.

To avoid the UK walking away, it would have agreed an acceptable deal that could have been done and dusted by now.

The Chequers proposal is just a starting point for negotiations with the EU. it is a safe bet Europe will demand even more concessions.

Are the red lines, already breached in so many ways, to be swept away altogether to make what is an appalling deal even worse? MICHAEL PEARSON,

Farnborough, Hants. ThE obstinacy and arrogance of Theresa May in denying that the Chequers deal on Brexit is anything other than an exercise in appease-ment of the EU does not wash with the electorate.

This comes on top of two years of waffle, obfuscation, incompetence, bullying and devious dealings. it can only have one consequence: Mrs May’s removal as prime minister. JOHN PRITCHARD, Ingatestone, Essex.
