ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR A LEGER BID

- By MARCUS TOWNEND Racing Correspondent

WELLS FARHH GO looks a leading contender for the St Leger at Doncaster on September 15 after galloping his opponents into submission in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket’s July meeting yesterday.

The Tim Easterby-trained colt made all to beat Loxley by two lengths under jockey David Allan. Wells Farhh Go is now 10-1 fourth favourite for the final Classic of the season, in betting headed by Aidan O’Brien’s Queen’s Vase winner Kew Gardens. The winner of last season’s Acomb Stakes at York, Wells Farhh Go had pulled too hard in defeat in his two previous runs this season. His training had also been hampered by hoof infections and a shot at the Derby had to be shelved.

Easterby, who won the 2002 Leger with Bollin Eric, said: ‘It is all right saying the Derby is there, but if your horse is not ready, you can’t go.

‘You have to wait while they come right. He is getting there now and by September he will be spot on.’

Meanwhile, Martyn Meadetrained Advertise, runner-up to Calyx in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, will be aimed towards the Dewhurst Stakes back at Newmarket in October after a two-length win from Konchek in the July Stakes under Frankie Dettori.
