Emery: I’ll have 5 captains
UNAI EMERY has revealed he wants ‘five captains’ as the new Arsenal manager puts his stamp on the club. Former Sevilla boss Emery said of the practice, which is common in Spain: ‘My first idea is to have five captains. I don’t know the names (yet). Laurent Koscielny is the captain now and I respect that. ‘Then, we’ll look for those players whose personality is best in the dressing room.’ Emery says he hasn’t sought the advice of Arsene Wenger on the squad he inherited. Wenger’s 22-year tenure ended this summer, but Emery says he has not felt the need to seek feedback from his predecessor. ‘Not yet,’ Emery said. ‘I am sure we’ll meet in the near future. Not all coaches have the same relationship with a player. I want to know my direct opinion. ‘The information with Arsene is also important for me but the best is my direct relationship with the players.’ Asked how Arsenal can improve on last year’s sixth-placed Premier League finish, Emery said: ‘The work every day is to be competitive in each match.’
