Banned Dettori is set to miss Glorious Goodwood
FRANKIE DETTORI was left ‘devastated’ after picking up a 10-day careless riding ban at Newmarket yesterday which rules him out of the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes — plus the whole of Glorious Goodwood. Among the rides the Italian will miss are Without Parole in the Sussex Stakes and Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup. The Stewards imposed the suspension after his mount Angel’s Hideaway, runner-up in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, veered to the right and cannoned into Main Edition who, in turn, collided with favourite La Pelosa. Dettori’s ban runs from July 27 to August 5 and he said: ‘I’m devastated, of course. I will think about an appeal. I’ve got to check with the PJA (Professional Jockeys Association) and look at the videos again.’ The Duchess of Cambridge Stakes was won emphatically by Michael Bell-trained Pretty Pollyanna. The Silvestre De Sousa-ridden, seven-length scorer is the early 12-1 favourite for the 2019 1,000 Guineas. Jessica Harrington-trained Alpha Centauri followed up her easy win in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot with an equally facile four-and-a-half length victory under Colm O’Donoghue in the Falmouth Stakes.
