Trump told me I should sue the EU, reveals May

DONALD Trump advised Theresa May to ‘sue the EU’ rather than waste time negotiating with Brussels, she said yesterday.

The US President revealed last week that he had made a ‘suggestion’ to Mrs May about how to handle Brexit, but that she had considered it ‘too brutal’ and rejected it.

Asked yesterday about the advice, the Prime Minister said Mr Trump had told her to take legal action against Brussels. ‘He told me I should sue the EU,’ she told the BBC’s Andrew Marr show. ‘Not go into negotiation, sue them.’

A government source said he had given his advice early last year. ‘The advice, basically, was don’t bother with Article 50, don’t give them any money, don’t participate in their process at all, and say, “See you in court”,’ the source said.

In the event, Mrs May chose to trigger Article 50, the formal twoyear process for leaving the EU.
