But it wasn’t all luvvies in the royal box … as Mrs May joined Wills too

AFTER Donald Trump’s visit and with the Tory bust-up over her Brexit plan rumbling on, the Prime Minister may have wanted to bury her head in the sand yesterday.

But Theresa May appeared to have found an unlikely confidante to help lift the weight from her shoulders at the men’s singles final at Wimbledon.

Mrs May laughed and joked with Prince William in a starstudded royal box at SW19.

The PM and her husband Philip sat alongside William and the Duchess of Cambridge, who brought a flash of sunshine to Centre Court in a buttercup yellow dress by Dolce & Gabbana.

They were joined by some of Britain’s leading acting talent, including Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch and Hugh Grant.

Emma Watson was also in attendance, as was Kate Winslet, who was pictured loudly whistling support during the match.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan, newsreader Fiona Bruce and tennis greats such as Bjorn Borg were also in attendance. The guests at the All-England Tennis Club looked on as Novak Djokovic secured his fourth Wimbledon title with a straight sets win against South African Kevin Anderson.

The Serbian sealed the victory after two hours and 19 minutes, and celebrated by kneeling down and eating some of the grass on Centre Court, which he also did after his wins in 2011, 2014 and 2015.

‘The grass tasted really well,’ he said. ‘I had a double portion this year, to treat myself.’

Djokovic was cheered on from the stands by his wife Jelena, 32, before their three-year- old son Stefan joined them as the Wimbledon trophy was presented.

‘It feels amazing because for the first time in my life, I have someone screaming “Daddy! Daddy!”,’ Djokovic said. ‘He’s under five years old, so he couldn’t watch the matches live but we hoped if I lifted the trophy he could be there. I’m very emotional and happy for my wife and my whole team.’

The victory marks a remarkable comeback for Djokovic after struggling to regain both his fitness and confidence over a torturous 18 months leading up to this year’s tournament.

Djokovic, who was the world number 21 coming into the tournament, is the lowest-ranked player to take the Wimbledon title since Goran Ivanisevic triumphed after being entered as a wildcard in 2001.

Speaking after his victory, Djokovic said: ‘I had many moments of doubt. There is no better place in the world to be making a comeback. This is a sacred place for the world of tennis.’

Kate, who is a patron of the All England club, was enjoying her second day in a row at Centre Court after being accompanied by the Duchess of Sussex on Saturday to see Angelique Kerber defeat Serena Williams in the women’s singles final.
