Weinstein ‘admitted he traded film jobs for sex’

- From Daniel Bates in New York

HARVEY Weinstein has allegedly admitted using his position of power to get sexual favours from women.

The disgraced film mogul is quoted in an interview as saying that ‘no girl looked at me until I made it big in Hollywood’ and claiming he took full advantage of his fame.

But hours after the piece was published, its author said in a statement issued by Weinstein’s lawyer that the comments may have been ‘misrepresented’.

The interview, on the Spectator magazine’s US website, was published after Weinstein, 66, appeared in court in New york on additional charges including ‘predatory sexual assault’ that could see him jailed for life if convicted.

Columnist Taki Theo dora cop statement ulos, 80, said he was invited to Weinstein’s Manhattan office for a promised ‘world exclusive’ story about two of the mogul’s accusers, the actresses Rose McGowan and Asia Argento.

Weinstein reportedly said: ‘you got lotsa girls, no girl looked at me until I made it big in Hollywood. yes, I did offer them acting jobs in exchange for sex, but so did and still does everyone. But I never, ever forced myself on a single woman.’

Hours later, Weinstein’s lawyer Ben Brafman put out a claiming that he was present for the conversation, which was a ‘social meeting between old friends’.

Mr Brafman said: ‘Harvey and Taki did not discuss the case, nor would I allow him to. They talked about old Hollywood and the contrast to European culture ... Mr Weinstein never said anything about trading movie roles for sexual favours. you have my word he did not say that.’

The lawyer added an additional comment from Mr Theodoracopulos, who said: ‘I believe that I may have misrepresented Harvey Weinstein’s conversation with me in New york last month. It was my mistake. We were discussing Hollywood, and I may have misunderstood certain things about the methods of that place ... I hope I have not damaged his case.’

Despite the denials, as of yesterday evening the article was still online with no correction or clarification.
