THE CORONATION EGG
BETWEEN 1885 and 1916, 50 Fabergé eggs were made for the Romanov family. Perhaps the most magnificent was the Coronation Egg, given by the Tsar to the Tsarina in 1897. It has an outer shell of gold and is covered in double-headed eagles embossed with diamonds. It opened to reveal inside a miniature gold and diamond replica of the state coach that they used on their coronation day.
