THE NUPTIAL TIARA

CREATED for the wife of Tsar Paul I who ruled from 1796 to 1801, the tiara is designed around an enormous 13-carat natural pink diamond. The other diamonds in the piece are believed to total more than 1,000 carats. It formed part of the wedding jewels for royal brides that also included a separate small crown, diamond earrings made for Catherine I, a necklace containing 75 carats of diamond pendants, and the Imperial Mantle Clasp — an enormous brooch set with diamonds.
