THE ORLOV DIAMOND

-

THIS 189.62-carat diamond was nearly two inches in height and mounted in the Imperial Sceptre, made during the reign of Catherine the Great. It is thought to have been stolen from the eye of a statue of a Hindu deity in India and then bought by Count Grigorievich Orlov, one of Catherine’s many lovers, in Amsterdam.
