Shameful littering of a spotless beach

-

PLEASE could anyone planning to visit our beautiful beaches over the summer holidays take their rubbish home with them. The beach and dunes at Camber Sands in East Sussex are spotless out of season and a battlefield after a hot and busy weekend. Tides and strong breezes spread the plastic waste far and wide and out to sea. Local council workers, who have to clear the mess, confirm that the beach is left in a terrible state following every spell of good weather. There are many bins on and around the beach and more are planned, but some people make no attempt to dispose of their used barbecues, empty bottles, food waste, carrier bags and much worse. I have never seen anything like this on beaches abroad. Shameful!

E. HALL, Rye, E. Sussex. WHAT a great pity that the fans supporting the England football team by watching big screens at venues around the country didn’t show the same national pride in the cleanliness of the area. After the match, Brighton Beach was left covered in cans, plastic glasses and general litter. It really is a sad reflection on our country.

RON LARKIN, Wadhurst, E. Sussex.
