MAY BACKS UK’S 2030 WORLD CUP BID

- By CHARLES SALE

A UK-WIDE bid to host the World Cup in 2030 moved a step closer yesterday when the Government pledged their strong support. The Government would favour a bid with all the home countries including all of Ireland, allowing games to be staged in dublin. Theresa May’s spokesman said: ‘We are happy to sit down with the football bodies to discuss any proposals. The UK has a superb track record of putting on major sporting events.’ The FA will not rush to throw their hat in the ring. They will spend the next year on a feasibility study and any bid depends on FIFA wanting the 2030 tournament in Europe.
