Not so correct
AS A white, male, heterosexual indigenous Brit, I am probably barred from commenting on Bath University’s equality and diversity network (Mail).
However, I watched a video called Why Is My Curriculum White? I discovered that even students from the North of england are automatic subjects of discrimination and the fact an exam question uses the word ‘ summer’ discriminates against students from the southern hemisphere.
One student reported: ‘I have never in my three years here been taught by anyone who wasn’t white and 70 per cent of them are male.’
I lost count of the number of similar english errors in the ten-minute video.
The surprise is that such a situation should exist under a female vice- chancellor, the soon-to- depart and highly paid Glynis Breakwell.
I have ended up not being sure which is the greater evil at Bath: the convolutions of political correctness taken to the nth degree, or the implicit acceptance of a poor use of language at a seat of learning. Neither bodes well for the future of higher education.
