3 quizzed in safety probe on Grenfell
DETECTIVES have interviewed three people under caution over the Grenfell Tower fire that killed 72 as part of their manslaughter and health and safety investigation.
Scotland Yard yesterday said its inquiry has moved into a new phase with the start of interviews.
Potential offences under consideration in the aftermath of the devastating blaze include gross negligence manslaughter, corporate manslaughter and breaches of the Health and Safety Act.
The fire in Kensington, West London, in June last year prompted questions over the building’s flammable cladding and failures in fire safety arrangements. Officers have spent the last year scouring the tower for forensic evidence. Yvette Williams, of Justice for Grenfell, welcomed the police probe but said it was unfortunate it has taken so long to get to interview stage. Police said the tower will not be returned to the council until they are ‘entirely confident’ the investigatory work inside was complete.
