Congratulations, Cliff

-

THE reason for the lack of public confidence in the police is that they no longer work for the public, but for themselves.

The Sir Cliff richard case is a good example. The police did not inform the BBC of the investigation because they thought it was in the public interest; they did it to massage their own egos. The result is that it has cost the taxpayer a fortune.

at a time when violent crime is rampant on our streets, senior police commanders are devoting their resources to ensuring wolf-whistling and the like are designated a ‘hate crime’.

The police seem to be incompetent and ineffective at dealing with crime that has an impact on the well-being of the public. instead, they invent new offences so they can tick boxes.

DAVE O’CONNOR, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. i am pleased Sir Cliff richard has won his court case against the BBC. However, the TV licence fee-payer will ultimately shell out for the damages awarded and the court costs.

We will also continue to pay the salaries and perks of the BBC panjandrums responsible, because i doubt any of them will lose their jobs over this shambles.

PHILLIP SMITH, Weyhill, Hants. LOOK out for an increase in the TV licence fee after Cliff richard’s court case success against the BBC.

WILF HANNIS, Tuffley, Glos.
