maNCHeSTer CiTY might have failed to sign Jorginho — but their biggest pieces of business could be convincing star players to commit their futures to the club.

Pep guardiola has not yet ruled out signing a central midfielder this summer after Chelsea swooped to land Jorginho when new boss maurizio Sarri arrived at Stamford Bridge last week.

Fabian Delph and ilkay gundogan will act as deputies to Fernandinho in the meantime. Director of football Txiki Begiristain’s focus, however, should be on new contracts.

raheem Sterling (below) is in the final two years of his deal and, while City sources insist they are relaxed by the situation, that will come to a head over the next few months.

City, who kick off pre-season against Dortmund in the early hours of tomorrow morning , have made it plain that they do not want players entering the final year of contracts with futures unresolved.

Two others whose futures will be addressed are gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane. Both excelled during last season’s title win but earn less than £100,000 a week.

Their deals run until 2021 but improved financial terms are thought to be in the works. agreement with Jesus over a two-year extension was close, but not concluded, before the end of last season. guardiola’s desire to build a dynasty hinges on his younger players signing longer contracts.

Kevin De Bruyne, Nicolas Otamendi, David Silva and Fernandinho all agreed fresh terms last year. De Bruyne is believed to be City’s highest-paid player, earning £280,000 a week after bonuses and image rights.

Spanish midfielder Brahim Diaz, 18, has yet to sign a contract extension and has only one year left on his deal. City are desperate to keep a player who is rated very highly, though he could go out on loan.

Kosovo midfielder Bersant Celina, 21, who spent last season on loan at ipswich, is set to leave for Swansea in a £4million deal. Buy-back and sell-on clauses are expected to be included in the package.
