No-deal nonsense
JUDGING from the hysteria surrounding alleged Government preparations for a no-deal Brexit, anyone would think Britain was planning for war rather than merely leaving the EU.
Soldiers drafted in to deliver essential medical supplies, stockpiling of food and NHS drugs, fuel running dry – it all sounds utterly preposterous.
Could it be that Whitehall is using Project Fear tactics to frighten the public into backing Theresa May’s underwhelming Chequers plan?
A Government assessment (allegedly suppressed by Mrs May’s chief Brexit adviser and staunch Europhile Olly Robbins) has found that the overall cost of a no- deal Brexit would be far higher for European economies than for Britain.
No-one wants a no-deal outcome. But for all the Whitehall doomsaying, it’s the EU that has most to fear. Perhaps we should lend them our contingency plan.
