TEODORO CAN SPRING A SURPRISE

- By SAM TURNER

there are sound reasons for believing TEODORO (haydock, 3.05) has plenty to find on official ratings but he is over-priced to win today’s rose Of Lancaster Stakes.

At first glance, the likeable four-year- old trained by tom Dascombe (below) seemingly looks outclassed by some superior three- year- old rivals that could be open to any amount of improvement.

the likes of elwazir, Zaaki and Communique are choicely bred and hail from powerful stables. however, teodoro can bridge the gap from keenly-contested handicaps to group races with a bold show at one of his favourite venues. the selection ran well in spite of being caught too far back in a strong handicap at haydock last month, where the front runners held sway and he could never quite get on terms. he has previously appeared a better horse when ridden closer to the pace over a trip like today’s, rather than being held up over 12 furlongs, which were the tactics employed last time. It is also worth noting his stable struck with 100-1 winner Charlie D at Wolverhampton yesterday so are not averse to springing a surprise.

the Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot is a bit like Love Island as it is not for everyone but you cannot help but be drawn in!

the opening Dubai Duty Free Dash should live up to its name with the likes of el Astronaut and Watchable, to name but two, likely to blitz from the stalls.

there is a chance one of the pacesetters will hang on but

EVERGATE (Ascot, nap, 1.05) and Adam Kirby could profit if the pace collapses and the duo may wrestle the prize for trainer robert Cowell, who has enjoyed consistent success in the race.
