Secrets of the science

THE CUTERA enlighten III, the new technology that convinced Dr Mohan, is a super-advanced picosecond laser, which uses acoustic waves to break up pigment while avoiding the hair loss, burning, and blistering with which laser removal used to be associated.

Q-switch treatments had more than a 50 per cent chance of

blistering; the CUTERA claims less than 1 per cent.)

A picosecond is one trillionth of a second (1,000 times shorter than a nanosecond) and this micro- pulse allows for maximum precision. Each brow takes about ten seconds at most, and the pain is no worse than an elastic band flicking against the skin. No numbing cream is required, but you wear a mask to protect your eyes from the beam. Over one to three sessions (at £300 a shot), Dr Mohan can offer between 80 to 100 per cent clearance.

In my case, eradication took two attempts, with a couple of months’ rest in between.

Brilliantly, the laser’s three beams mean every shade can be rectified, be it grey, khaki or even tangerine.
