Down’s man with life expectancy of 14 who’s now 71

-

A MAN with Down’s syndrome has lived five times longer than doctors expected.

Terry Culley, pictured, was given a life expectancy of 14 at birth – but has now made it to 71.

He did not learn to walk until he was ten, but has thrived over the years.

An avid film lover, Mr Culley has lived in the same care home for 27 years in Swindon.

Care home manager Susie Clavery said: ‘Terry likes singing, dancing, playing the harmonica and drums, takes part in a fitness class, mows the lawn, and helps care for our vegetable patch.’

She added: ‘He’s such a loving and caring guy who’s always eager to help out.’

Those with Down’s do not often live past their 50s or 60s. When Mr Culley was born, life expectancies were much lower.
