Rushdie wife’s heart surgery shock aged 31

-

SIR Salman Rushdie’s daughterin-law discovered last year that she had two holes in her heart.

And singer Natalie Rushdie, 31, married to the novelist’s son, Zafar, was devastated last week to be told she needed emergency surgery to remove a heart monitor.

‘I was so shocked I broke down,’ Natalie (pictured, left, after her op) reveals. ‘It was a mixture of pain, infection and realising your body wasn’t recovering.

‘I asked [the consultant] to allow me to delay by a couple of days so I could mentally prepare, but he said very calmly: “I want you to breathe and relax but you have a problem and it needs to come out today.” ’
