Cipriani is charged over late-night bar bust-up
ENGLAND international Danny Cipriani was yesterday charged with assaulting a police officer during an incident at a Jersey nightclub. The 30-year-old Gloucester fly-half was also charged with resisting arrest, common assault, larceny and being disorderly on licensed premises, police said. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Jersey Magistrates’ Court this morning. Cipriani is understood to have been involved in an early-hours altercation with a doorman at a hotel bar in St Helier, where he was reportedly drinking with Gloucester team-mates on a pre-season training camp. Cipriani moved to Gloucester from fellow Premiership club Wasps this summer. The new season begins on September 1. Cipriani has played 16 times for England and in May he was recalled by head coach Eddie Jones after a long spell in international exile. He went on to reclaim the No 10 shirt in the final Test against South Africa in June, 10 years after he last wore it. This summer’s tour of South Africa was a personal triumph which appeared to leave Cipriani in contention for a place at next year’s World Cup.
