40 years on, Grease stars can still move like lightning
THEY may no longer be able to pass as teenagers, but Olivia Newton- John and John Travolta still have all the moves.
The pair showed they are still hopelessly devoted to Grease as they reprised one of their routines at a 40th anniversary screening of the hit musical film.
Travolta, 64, and Miss NewtonJohn, 69, played high school sweethearts Danny and Sandy in the 50s-based romantic comedy.
On Wednesday night they
‘From squeaky clean to raunchy hits’
embraced on the red carpet in Los Angeles before performing their dance from the film’s biggest hit, You’re The One That I Want.
The Australian singer wore a comfortable pair of pink trainers that matched her pastel- pink trouser suit. She and Travolta, in a sleek black blazer and blue jeans, were joined at the special screening by Grease co-stars Didi Conn, 67, who played Frenchy, and Barry Pearl, 68, who played Frenchy’s boyfriend Doody. Director Randal Kleiser also attended.
Miss Newton-John, who was 28 when her scenes as teenager Sandy were filmed, moved away from her squeakyclean image in the 1980s, with raunchier hits such as Physical and has had several TV and film appearances. Travolta also underwent a transformation with bad-boy roles in films such as Pulp Fiction and Get Shorty.
But they were not the oldest ‘teenagers’ in the cast. Stockard Channing, who played girl gang leader Betty Rizzo, was 33. Grease, which has frequently been voted best musical in fan polls, also gave the pair a smash hit with Summer Nights.
