Rap star will fund Cambridge places for two black students

said: ‘There are so many young black kids all over the country who have the level of academic excellence to study at a university such as Cambridge – however, we are still under represente­d at leading universiti­es.

‘I hope this scholarshi­p serves as a small reminder that if young black students wish to study at one of the best universiti­es in the world, then the opportunit­y is yours for the taking – and if funding is one of the barriers, then we can work towards breaking that barrier down.’ The double BRIT-award winner got six A*s, three As and three Bs at GCSE but did not go to university after he only achieved a ‘humbling’ ABCDE at A-Level, choosing to pursue a music career instead. He said: ‘My results shocked me. I didn’t do too great at A-levels.’

During a talk at Oxford University in 2016, Stormzy said of his school days: ‘For someone who would cuss in class and was on the verge of being expelled, it was A-Levels that showed me that in life you need work ethic.’
