At last, some dance novices for Strictly
IT has come under fire for choosing celebrity contestants who already have careers as experienced dancers.
But at least Strictly’s latest contestants – Dr Ranj Singh and Stacey Dooley – fit the bill of being true dance novices.
Dr Singh, an NHS clinician who appears on ITV’s This Morning, yesterday became the seventh celebrity to sign up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
He was joined by Stacey Dooley, a 31year-old journalist who has made a series of BBC documentaries covering issues including the migrant crisis and the sex industry.
Dr Singh, 39, said: ‘ My friends would describe me as a cross between dad-dancing and go-go dancing. I do like dancing but I’ve never been formally trained.’
Miss Dooley said: ‘Typically, work for me is very serious and can be quite hard core so I’m going to soak up the escapism and bathe in the sequins. See you on the dancefloor!’
Strictly has come under fire for having contestants with dance experience instead of novices. This year’s contestants include Faye Tozer – who was part of nineties group Steps – and dancer and actor Danny John- Jules.
