Travelling under the name Harrison, Mrs Simpson crossed the Channel and sought refuge at the home of friends in the south of France. Edward joined her later, and they married in a chateau lent to them by a French millionaire. Frances Barber, Anthony Calf and Jane McKenna star in ABDICATION: THE CRISIS OF WALLIS SIMPSON (RADIO 4, 2.15PM), a great drama written by Nicola Baldwin.
