Brewer’s football cheer

CARlSbERg is celebrating a successful summer thanks to the World Cup.

Sales were up 10pc in host nation Russia, while the hot weather also boosted demand, especially in China, for its premium wheat beer Kronenbourg 1664 blanc, which saw sales jump 55pc.

Craft beer and alcoholfree brew volumes both jumped by 26pc across Western Europe.

The Danish firm said that profits for the year would be higher than previously expected. overall, sales in the three months to June 30 rose to £2.2bn.

Morten Imsgard, an analyst at Sydbank, said: ‘What lifts the earnings is that they’ve sold more expensive beers, which is very positive.’
