EMERY KEEPS FAITH IN STRUGGLING CECH

- By KIERAN GILL

ARSENAL boss Unai Emery insists Petr Cech can bounce back from last week’s chastening loss to Manchester City and the goalkeeper is set to start against his old club Chelsea. Cech was criticised for the part he played in their 2-0 defeat as he struggled to execute Emery’s philosophy of playing out from the back. It made for uncomfortable viewing at times — at one point the 36-year-old nearly passed the ball into his own net — but Emery will keep faith with Cech when Arsenal travel to Chelsea tomorrow. It means Bernd Leno, the club’s £22.5million summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen, will have to wait for his chance. Emery said: ‘For Saturday, the decision for me is easy. Petr Cech can continue to start the match. I believe in him. If Bernd starts (in the future), I believe in him also. I am very happy with his (Cech’s) performance.’ Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles has suffered a ‘small fracture’ to his left leg and will be out for six to eight weeks. The 20-year-old, who filled in at left back against City, suffered the injury in a challenge with Kyle Walker. Left back Nacho Monreal could replace him against Chelsea. l TONI KROOS has said that Mesut Ozil’s claims of racism inside the German team and the German FA are ‘nonsense’. Germany and Real Madrid midfielder Kroos said: ‘The parts in his statement that are rightly addressed are unfortunately overshadowed by the significantly higher amount of nonsense. He knows very well that racism within the national team and the DFB does not exist.’ Ozil, 29, quit international duty after the World Cup, saying he had experienced racism due to his Turkish heritage.
