Black Rod Lt Gen Sir Michael Willcocks has married for a second time at the age of 74, to Penny Beels, 65.

As Black Rod, he organised the lying-instate of the Queen Mother in 2002. When Downing Street crassly attempted to enhance Tony Blair’s role, Willcocks, who is 5ft 7in, crisply explained there was no chance of that happening — causing the PM’s hatchet-man, Alastair Campbell, to call him a ‘little f*****’.

The new Lady Willcocks is an eminent figure at Committed To Good, or CTG, which helps those afflicted by conflict.
