MEDICAL
chiefs have decided that the term ‘junior doctor’ is demeaning and are looking for an alternative to ‘rebrand’ the status of newly qualified medics. What tosh! It’s not the name that’s the problem, it’s the fact that they feel undervalued. When I was a junior doctor, I had free accommodation for a year. That’s been axed. Nor did I have debts. The average junior doctor now owes £80,000 after a six-year course. Young doctors have been hit with pay cuts and are often dangerously overworked. It’s not a rebrand they need. It’s recognition of their dedication and hard work, and practical steps to support them.
