LIBRISA TO BREEZE TO VICTORY

- By SAM TURNER

OWnER tony Bloom has enjoyed a magnificent year with a number of well orchestrated victories and admirable stalwart LIBRISA BREEZE (newbury, 3.35) could be ready to peak in today’s Hungerford Stakes.

the self-made Brighton businessman enjoyed one of his best days’ racing at ascot last autumn when the six-year-old gained reward for a series of excellent performances in the Group 1 Qipco Sprint on Champions Day.

Ridden by Robert Winston, Librisa Breeze was delivered to perfection to pick the pocket of tasleet in the final half furlong, tactics his rider had tried to employ in last year’s Hungerford Stakes.

On that occasion Winston didn’t enjoy the breaks as the talented Massaat enjoyed a better track position and ultimately proved a couple of lengths too strong.

Given he was sent off as well-backed favourite, many felt that was a disappointing effort from Librisa Breeze. However, the clock told a different story with the run producing one of his premier efforts. although ascot’s climb to the line will always favour his come-from-behind style more than newbury, his effort last time in a highly-competitive Prix Maurice de Gheest suggested he was approaching his peak once more.

the selection was closing on Polydream, James Garfield and the tin Man all the way to the line a fortnight ago and the only slight reservation about his chance today is the prospect of a stop-start gallop with few confirmed front-runners in opposition.

With that in mind, Gustav Klimt could prove the chief danger, especially if Ryan Moore allows his mount to stride on from the front.

He has traditionally been a hold-up horse in his career to date, but ran a fine race in defeat in the Sussex Stakes behind Lightning Spear and could relish this slight drop in grade.
