Cyril, the dog with the gold tooth, is being taken for his usual saucer of beer in Edinburgh’s New Town by his owner, Angus (Crawford Logan). As ever, the pub is stuffed to the rafters with quirky characters, all doing their level best to outquirk each other. This rather twee new comedy drama series 44 SCOTLAND STREET (RADIO 4, 10.45AM (FM), 7.45PM) has been written and dramatised by the prolific Alexander McCall Smith, creator of The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series of novels.

MATTHEW KELLY plays the poet W.H. Auden, and David Yelland takes on the role of the composer Benjamin Britten in Alan Bennett’s play The Habit Of Art. They will be on tour from August 30, starting with a performanc­e at York Theatre Royal. Matthew and

David join Katie Derham this afternoon on IN TUNE (RADIO 3, 5PM) to talk about the play.
