Jamie seals his second doubles title this month

- By DAVID KENT

BRITAIN’S Jamie Murray and Brazilian Bruno Soares won their second doubles title of August with victory in the Cincinnati Masters final. Murray and Soares, the fourth seeds, came from a set down to beat Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 in one hour and 25 minutes. It was their first ATP Masters 1,000 title as a pair. Murray (below) and Soares won the Washington Open two weeks ago for their third victory this year, having defended their Acapulco title in March. Scot Murray, 32. and Soares, 36, have won nine titles since they joined forces in 2016, including the Australian Open and US Open. The victory makes up for defeat in last year’s Cincinnati final, where they lost to France’s Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut. Meanwhile, Kiki Bertens became the first Dutch player to win at Cincinnati with a 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory against the world No 1, Simona Halep. After a one-sided first set, Bertens saved a match point in the second set tie-break. The third set opened with two breaks of serve and after Bertens broke Halep twice more, the 26-year-old held her nerve, winning the biggest title of her career with an ace. A tearful Bertens, the world No 17, said: ‘Hopefully I can talk. I cannot find words for this moment. I’m so happy.’ In the men’s final, Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4 to claim his first Cincinnati title. The victory means Djokovic is the first man to win all nine Masters titles.
