Put brakes on speed

-

IS IT too much to ask that a little common sense is brought into the speed limit furore?

The present buffer zone of 10 per cent plus 2 mph may seem a tad generous, but 1 mph is ludicrous (Mail).

Speedometers in cars are not that accurate. My satnav and speedometer differ by 3 mph. The proposed limit is fraught with danger as motorists would spend more time watching their speedometers instead of the road, leading to more accidents.

A better move would be to reduce the present allowance to 5 per cent plus 1 mph? Forget about money grabbing, the obvious motivation behind this proposal, and put safety and common sense first.

THE police need to cut costs so I am suggesting the following system to remove the need for costly speed cameras.

My proposal is that all drivers are automatically issued with a speeding fine annually on the basis that no normal driver can go for a year without going over the limit by 1 mph.

Any driver who appeals against this on the basis that they have not gone over the limit should lose their licence because they are an obvious ‘mobile road block’.

In one stroke this would punish the guilty, obviate the need for expensive enforcement and raise revenue.

What more could our politicians and government bureaucrats want?
