Brewery bans ‘insensitive’ Suicider cider

-

AN ALCOHOLIC drink called Suicider will no longer be sold at a festival after a Samaritans volunteer complained its name was ‘insensitive’. The cider was on offer at the Beautiful Days festival in Ottery St Mary, East Devon.

But Daniel Hillier, who was working at a bar run by Otter Brewery, claimed the name was inappropriate. ‘I’ve personally lost two friends to suicide,’ said Mr Hillier, ‘and it’s just so insensitive of them to call it that.’

Tim Chichester of Wiscombe Cider, which makes Suicider, said Mr Hillier’s complaint was the first about the name in 40 years. Otter Brewery’s Patrick McCaig said: ‘We won’t be selling that brand at the festival again. It was acceptable in the old days. It’s not now.’
