YORK STEP UP FIGHT AGAINST DRUG USERS
YORK racecourse has installed new locks on disabled toilets in its most expensive enclosure to combat recreational drug use. An investigation by
Sportsmail found traces of cocaine in some of the toilets at the course, which will welcome 80,000 racegoers for this week’s Ebor Festival. The authorities have responded by taking additional measures to crack down on drug use. Drug amnesty bins have been introduced on the racecourse and sniffer dogs will once again be present at the gates. The disabled toilets off the champagne lawn can now only be accessed by radar keys, which disabled racegoers can bring with them or pick up from the racecourse reception. A number of racegoers have been banned from racecourses this year for bringing in illegal substances, though the RCA declined yesterday to disclose the figures.
