NEWCASTLE UNITED fielded 11 Geordies during a 5-1 victory over North East rivals Sunderland — including the sons of a Great Britain ice hockey star. Three of those homegrown players were on target for the Under 23s as captain Owen Bailey, 19, opened the scoring before winger Cal Roberts, 21, added a second and striker Luke Charman, 20, scored twice. Danish forward Elias Sorensen, on as a substitute, netted the fifth. Roberts, defender Jamie Sterry, 22, and midfielder Dan Barlaser, 21, have made their senior debuts, while forward Sean Longstaff, 20, was involved in the summer friendlies. Longstaff is the one being tipped for elevation to Rafa Benitez’s squad on a more permanent basis and the son of former ice hockey ace David Longstaff has already made more than 60 appearances in loan spells at Kilmarnock and Blackpool, scoring 12 goals. His younger brother Matty, 18, also played against the Black Cats. The other Geordies included were Kelland Watts, Lewis Cass, Thomas Allan and Adam Wilson.
