Dazzling treasures you can find
1. SERPENTINE
FOUND on Cornwall’s Lizard peninsula, this often oval-shaped stone is mottled green or red.
2. CARNELIAN
A TRANSLUCENT quartz found in Kent, Penzance and on the Isle of Wight. Yellow, brown or red.
3. JASPER
OPAQUE quartz that’s dull red, brown or yellowish green.
4. AMBER
THIS fossilised resin is found on East Coast beaches. It’s primrose to deep orange in colour.
5. AGATE
FOUND on the Scottish and East Coasts and in Cornwall. The banded variety is most striking.
6. ONYX
LIKE a straight-banded agate. Found nationwide, but rare.
7. DOLERITE
FOUND in Torquay and Torbay in Devon, and in Cornwall. The tough, heavy, igneous rock is brown, almost black, in colour, maybe with a green tinge.
8. SCHIST
CONSISTS of lots of thin layers, ovoid or flattened ovoid in shape. Found in Cornwall and Devon (particularly Start Bay).
