WHILE Lookalike X-Files star set to play Iron Lady
THE truth is out there . . . X- Files star Gillian Anderson shares a spooky similarity with Margaret Thatcher — and now her boyfriend is said to want to take advantage of their likeness.
He’s the celebrated screenwriter Peter Morgan and Anderson is, I can disclose, being considered for the role of Maggie in his acclaimed Netflix series The Crown.
‘Gillian is an excellent actress, so it would be a real coup to get her,’ says a source close to the production, currently filming the third series.
The Crown is based on the reign of the Queen and features her relationships with prime ministers and other politicians.
Lady Thatcher will appear towards the end of the fourth series as the newly elected leader of the Conservative Party.
Anderson, 50, and Morgan, who started courting in 2016, decline to comment, but they have collaborated before, as the screenwriter reminded me last year.
‘We worked together on The Last King Of Scotland,’ he said, though emphasising that their personal circumstances were then very different.
‘We were both married and that was a lifetime ago.’
Nevertheless, Morgan, 55, who is also one of The Crown’s executive producers, conceded: ‘I would work with her again.’ Twicedivorced Anderson, who has been bewitching television viewers since she played Special Agent Scully in The X- Files opposite David ■ Duchovny, would undoubtedly convey the sensuality and ruthlessness which the late French President Francois Mitterrand detected in the Iron Lady. He remarked that she had ‘the eyes of Caligula and the mouth of Marilyn Monroe’.
Before Morgan met Anderson, he was married to Lila Schwarzenberg — born Princess Anna Carolina zu Schwarzenberg, with whom he has five children.
Lila once admitted to ‘ culinary neglect’, particularly when serving him fish fingers left over from their children’s supper.
‘He took one look and said: “I am neither five years old nor a f****** penguin.” He left the table and left the house.’
Presumably Anderson is tastier in every way.
