Mulgrew’s spot on for Rovers

-

TWO penalties from Charlie Mulgrew cancelled out Jon Dadi Bodvarsson’s brace to deny Reading their first win of the campaign. Paul Clement’s winless side travelled to Ewood Park last night, and they looked to have ripped up the form guide when they stormed into the lead after just 12 minutes. Bodvarsson beat Blackburn goalkeeper David Raya to a loose ball, before chipping over him and into the back of the net. And the Icelandic striker added another soon after, when turning in Yakou Meite’s rebound. ‘He’s come in and done his job and that’s what I really want from the players,’ Clement said of Bodvarsson. ‘If they’re left out, when they do step on to the pitch they have to deliver.’ Blackburn, who are close to signing Jack Rodwell, looked to be out of the contest but Mulgrew gave them hope in the 51st minute when he fired home from the spot. That hope then turned to joy when Paul McShane felled Mulgrew, and converted the penalty to complete the comeback. ‘I was disappointed by the way we started,’ said Mulgrew. ‘A draw is a fair result. We should have won it, but there are positives for us to take.’
