From frisky to frumpy, schoolmarm Suranne
BESPECTACLED, prim and forbidding – it’s not the Suranne Jones we’ve come to know. The 3 -year-old actress plays a prudish headmistress in ITV’s forthcoming costume drama Vanity Fair.
The look is a world away from BBC1’s Doctor Foster, where in one scene her character stripped to her underwear for a romp in the kitchen with her exhusband, played by Bertie Carvel.
It’s also a far cry from the cheeky image of the actress baring her stocking tops which accompanied an interview in the Sunday Times magazine. In Vanity Fair she is Miss Pinkerton, snobbish head of an academy for young ladies who dislikes the protagonist Becky Sharp, played by Olivia Cooke.
The adaptation of William Thackeray’s 1848 novel begins on Sunday, September 2, at pm on ITV and also stars Martin Clunes, Frances de la Tour and Michael Palin.
