How my ‘gym bra’ went viral

-

IT was nice to find out last Sunday morning that I had become an internet sensation once again. My wife never misses a chance to stitch me up and I’d given her an open goal at Preston on Saturday.

I was caught on camera pulling my shirt on and I was photographed wearing what looks like a crop top. Abbey, of course, couldn’t wait to get the picture on Instagram and Twitter; among the many replies she received, someone said I’d taken to wearing her gym bra.

When I saw a few days later on Twitter that an online clothing company has launched a line of men’s crop tops, I did point out to them that I have been setting the trend for years with similar garments. I’ve always regarded myself as a fashionista!

On a serious note, I was actually wearing a GPS vest. We put them on every day in training to record how far we have run and how many sprints we have done — you actually don’t realise they are there — but this is the first season I have worn them in matches.

The reason we have them on in the Championship is because grounds in this division are not set up in the way Premier League games are for matches. In the Premier League, you have cameras all around the stadium that are focused on every single player to record their ProZone figures. You don’t have that level of attention in the Championship, so you have to keep the GPS vest on.

I think it is a good idea because managers can no longer tell you that you didn’t run or work hard enough because you both have access to the figures straight after the match.

They are a good idea and they will be on all through the season. I can just promise you I won’t be getting changed on the bench again any time soon.
