EMERY: RAMSEY MUST IGNORE CONTRACT TALK
ARSENAL manager Unai Emery has warned Aaron Ramsey not to let his contract stand-off with the club affect his performances. The midfielder’s £110,000-a-week deal is due to expire at the end of this season and there is still no sign of the Welshman signing a new one. Talks have been ongoing for several months but Arsenal have so far refused to offer Ramsey the significant increase he is after. Now Emery has told the 27-year-old not to let his frustration distract him. ‘I spoke with him last week,’ said the Arsenal manager, whose side face West Ham today having already lost to Manchester City and Chelsea this season. ‘The contract is for his agent and the club. I need his focus only on training, only on the match and on his performance. ‘Saturday is a difficult game but we are thinking we can control it with our personality. Against Chelsea and against Manchester City there were more times in the 90 minutes that the opposition didn’t let us do that.’ West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini understands he is under pressure to get results after spending £100million on nine players in the summer. But Pellegrini, whose side have lost to Liverpool and Bournemouth, said: ‘When I said that a new team, with a new manager and new players need time it is because it is true.’
