Building for the future in memory of Stephen
THE voice of youth in architecture will come to the fore at this year’s lecture in memory of Stephen Lawrence at the Royal Institute of British Architects.
Stephen had dreamed of becoming an architect before he was stabbed to death aged 18 in a racist attack in 1993.
An annual lecture is always held close to Stephen’s birthday on September 13, with next month’s talk taking place on the 20th. This year marks the 25th anniversary of his murder and 20 years since the foundation of the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, which helps disadvantaged students to pursue a career in architecture.
In a departure from previous years where there has been one keynote speaker, the event has been planned with The [204] Design Collective and features a panel discussion with young speakers including Abigail Patel and Selasi Setufe, from the Future Architects Network.
Tickets for the event at RIBA’s west London headquarters cost £25, including a welcome drink and food, with 100 available to students at £5. They can be bought at www.architecture .com/whats-on/the-annualstephen
