The powerful 20-year-old from Belarus is fast rising and won last week’s event in Connecticut. A formidable athlete, just a shame about the noise she makes when playing her shots.

AMANDA ANISIMOVA (USA)

Still only 16, age restrictions mean her appearances have been sparing but she has already beaten Petra Kvitova this year. Much is expected of the Floridian prodigy on her New York debut.
