1 Self-driving car pod approaches pedestrian nearing crossing. Sensors and cameras on the car spot the person and the vehicle’s electronic brain instructs the the autonomous car to brake. 2 To reassure pedestrian that they have been spotted, the car’s ‘eyes’ swivel to make eye contact. 3 As pedestrian crosses the road, the car’s ‘eyes’ follow their progress, to show that the vehicle is aware of their presence and movement.
